Smith
Reuter Lull has been working for the past five years from a master plan that
they developed for the Oxford County Courthouse that brings the historic
building into compliance with current codes and standards, while
reconfiguring space to better meet the county's current needs. The master
plan is being executed in distinct phases in order to complete individual
projects within the county's annual budget.
This
series of projects has upgraded the building’s electrical systems, created
basement storage spaces to provide archival storage within the building, and
renovated the former 19th century jail into new office space and
Commissioners' Chambers. This renovation project was the recipient of a 2006
Statewide Historic Preservation Honor Award from Maine Preservation.
A new
space designed for the Probate Court is currently under construction.
